Itinerary and highlights
Upon arriving at the community, experience a warm, traditional greeting with a fresh flower necklace welcome. This is the perfect local ritual to begin your day immersed in Yucatecan hospitality.
Take part in one of the ancient culinary traditions of the Mayan world. Grind local spices on a stone metate to make the rich recado rojo seasoning paste. You will help marinate the pork, wrap it in banana leaves, and witness the cooking process in the subterranean PIB oven (underground pit with hot stones). Enjoy this world-class Cochinita Pibil lunch served with hand-pressed tortillas and fresh fruit waters.
Then we meet the community's master craftsmen. You will learn the meticulous process of carving raw horn into beautiful accessories, from material shaping to final polishing. Under their expert guidance, craft your own custom bull horn souvenir to take home.
Explore an incredibly peaceful, non-commercialized Mayan archaeological site that peaked between 900 and 600 B.C. Walk among the majestic Acropolis, the ancient ball court, and learn about the Sac-Bé (white road) connecting Yaxunah to Cobá, the longest known highway in the ancient Mayan world.
Cool down at the end of the day by swimming in a stunning, open cenote in the heart of the town. Descend the wooden stairs into crystal-clear, fresh waters reaching depths of up to 30 meters. It is a breathtaking, natural oasis to relax in before your private ride back to the coast
